Here, Now
It is an ordinary morning,
putting clothes in the laundry,
making myself tea.
Yes, I drink tea now, too.
It settles me,
slows the rush inside my head,
lets me think my thoughts
instead of follow where they lead.
I look at the green church outside,
as I often used to,
and find, without asking,
that the life I once prayed for came true.
These are the days
I once dreamt I'd find,
the quiet kind
of happiness,
I thought I'd left behind.
No grand occasion, no great sign,
just a life that feels like mine.
The days I wished would come to stay,
arriving in their quiet way.
I am here.
I am happy.
I am them.
