Relax, Again
As a contrast to "Relax" by Ellen Bass:
Good things are going to happen
You will catch the 506 on time,
gasping, the doors closing just behind.
You will find twenty dollars,
creased and kind,
in the winter jacket left there in March.
The Chocolate Fudge Brownie will be half off
the day you stop in at Walmart after class
for nothing in particular.
You will remember the assignment
a week before it’s due, and sit
in the quiet of having finished it.
Someone will say your name across a room
as if they’d been looking for you.
You will stop counting the days.
Or you will count, and the number
will be small,
and one day
you won’t notice when it stopped
at all.
